The Challenge Trophy

Historically a Scratch foursomes Event with team members having to be a member of the same Golf Club, 2018 sees a revised format of Four ball better ball (Handicap) to encourage more competitors. The Challenge Trophy has been competed for over 100 years and is one of the most prestigious trophies in Scotland.

Area Team Competition

This Competition is for a 4 man Team to compete in a Stroke-play Competition. The three best scores count; with the fourth score counting in the event of a tie. The winning Team is entered in the Scottish Finals.

The Border Strokeplay Championship (Sponsored by Lloyd Motor Group)

An individual Stroke-play Competition, played initially over 72 holes but in recent years played over 36 holes.

The Border Matchplay Championship

Matchplay Competition with the winner going through to represent the Borders at the Scottish Champion of Champions event.

Summer League (D.McLeod Trophy)

This year sees a new format where Clubs will play matches in a league structure playing all teams in their league both home and away. The leagues and number of matches to be played will be dependent on the final number of teams who enter the competition. Entries for this years competition close on Sunday 15th April.

All league matches must be completed by 31st August.

Ideally Leagues will contain 3 or 4 teams. The winning teams in each league will go forward to compete in a semi-final then final & 3rd place playoff at a neutral venue on the 22nd September.

If it works out that there are only 3 leagues then the 4th Semi-Finalist will be the highest 2nd placed team out of all of the leagues based on the greatest number of points or failing that the greatest number of holes won.

Clubs may enter more than 1 team – Cost per team is £40

If a club enters more than 1 team the teams will be placed in different leagues

Players may only play for 1 team during the entire tournament

There will be 4 seeded teams if there are 4 leagues or 3 seeded teams if there are 3 leagues

All matches throughout the tournament will be Singles matches

Matches will consist of 4 Scratch Ties and 2 Handicap Ties (Maximum Handicap 9)

Scoring System in the leagues will be 2 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a loss. In the event of teams having the same number of points in the league the final league position will be decided on the highest number of ties won from all league matches. Failing that the result of the game between clubs will be taken into account with the number of holes up counted.

Entries can be made on the BGA web site at by credit card through BRS. If unable to do this, by cheque to a BGA Council member.

Border Junior Championship

A Strokeplay competition for boys under 18 years of age in the current year.

Under 14/16 Championships

A Strokeplay competition for boys in the relevant age groups.
